I am a years deep member of the CWA, Communications Workers of America, once bright eyes at what a union could be I've only seen disappointments. As a due paying member and even as a steward. I've been in two different locals within the district and haven't seen a difference.

I am in no way a union basher nor a corporate do boy. I've caused enough ripples on all sides within my communications company to spare either title.

I've tried looking for some sort of entity that would monitor the local
activities but see nothing other than closed doors. Is there some where in the government or AFL CIO that looks into corruption or misguided leadership?

I don't know maybe I just needed to vent.... I'm just sad to see the unions in this country crap out...

I work at a sawmill...I only dream of fair treatment.

I'm a member of DC33.Philadelphia has always been a big union town but unfortunately our president has been trying to get the mayor to agree to a contract for a few years now.

For you guys in other unions... do your locals answer only to themselves? Are they only subject to the rule of single meetings quorum? Or are the locals actions reviewed by a state or national level? I'm talking about charges of embezzlement, fraud, lack of representation... the list is incredulous.

I would have to say with my Union. It seems they only do what they wanna do anymore. Really sucks if your not one of the presadents or stewards buddy then they dont wanna help you out. They look out more for there buddys and dont wanna take care of the rest of the people. I know was just fighting with the Union over a job i bid on. the Presadents buddy got the job never was offered to me and i have more senority then the guy that got the job. talked to the pres. and just got told we need to pick our battles.

Ibew local 134, our international usually does its best to stay out of our locals way. Commercial/industrial construction in Chicago is still 75-80% union.
