Nice little endli, for that money you can't go wrong and as long as you like him that's all that matters, not everyone can source the best fish never mind afford them,I'm after some PBB and some wc endli/congis etc but I'm having trouble with importing etc
Enjoy him bud.

While the value is correct, this is how I look at things.

When I buy a fish I buy in the knowledge that this fish is going to get very large, and take a lot of space in a tank.So I want something special taking up that space.
So yes I could go the value route, or I could put in a few more coins and get something worthwhile.

But this is just ME, and I am a bit of a snob about these things!

Well I always like to get the underdog and groom it. When you see how nicer it has grown since the day you brought it, looking even nicer than a WC. Proud sense of achievement :)

So... the little guy eats like, well... a monster. But... he isn't really growing. He eats at LEAST 3 times as much as my senegal... but he's grown about 3 inches less than my senegal in the same amount of time. Here they are... both purchased at the same size on the same day. It's strange how differently they mature. They are both next to the same "moss ball" as a reference. (and the senegal's pic was taken mid-water change...)

nice!!! Its growth maybe impeded due to the lack of genetic diversity in the farms that produce them. You should change your white sand into a darker substrate so your bichirs can feel more comfortable and get darker

Pool filter sand is cheap. If I had access to something darker that was just as cheap (and as easy to use), I would be all about it. But... my bichirs definitely feel comfortable in there... so... I'm not too worried.

Where in Illinois did you get one for 10 bucks? I have only seen one in the near by LFSes and I think it was 60 bucks for a small one.

They are looking really good though.

I got them at Sailfin in Champaign, IL. It's a pretty sweet place... but... sometimes I don't think they know what they've got. Haha. In fact, all three that I've gotten from them (two sens and an endli) were sold as palmas. Even after I pointed out the mistake, they insisted they were right. Haha. Oh, well.

Ok, I really like Sailfin but don't get there much at all. They occasionally have some good sales as well. When I set up another freshwater tank I will have to check out their poly selection again. I like how random their freshwater stuff is and how they have all kinds of different sized fish. I live in Bloomington-Normal and only have a saltwater tank at the moment so Marine Aquatics and the local salt club is all I need.

I have also tried to point some things out to them only for the owner to get upset. Sometimes it works to our advantage though so I guess it evens out a bit. Like you said, Oh well.
