Keep in mind though we haven't seen the size of his fish, if they're small enough to hide in a 20g. They are probably 1-3 inches. But, I agree down the road he would eventually have to upgrade his tank.

the fish are small...less than 3" each for sure. especially the firemouth.

they are still tiny though. My plan is to upgrade to a 30 long that my neighbor's going to give me and then I'll use this 20 long for breeding.

not at all. I've made sure to maintain the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, algae levels at a minimum. I change the water once a month (maybe I need to do that more frequently?). I treat the water with API's Stress Coat, Stress Zyme, and Aquarium Salt and I also use Amquel+.

just finished changing 25% of the water. will make changes every sunday from now on. will keep you guys updated on their demeanor to see if anything changes as a result of this. thanks
