I saw in a book an idea to create a tank with marbles as the substrate, and metal objects coated with a sealant to keep them from rusting. They only chose fish that swim mid and top range. It looked very cool in the book, but i am wondering if anyone has tried this.

marbles would be a pain in the ass to clean as debris would sink between the crevices and built up detritis over time and casue a huge spike in nitrate

the metal thing sounds pretty cool :grinyes:

I cant figure out how to post my pic help!

Ewurm, look in the "frequently asked questions" forum and you will find a sticky that will walk you through one way of posting pics,
Marbles are a pain but if there is only one layer a gravel vac works.

I know what book your talking about. I have it. It has some cool ideas, but some of them are definately not practical. I like some of the ideas like using the rodent tubes as "tunnels" for the fish to swim through and I like the zen garden.

Ben, could you elaborate on the Zen Garden? Sounds cool...
