The laws in Illinois changed due to McDonald vs Chicago in June 2010. Because of this, Chicago and Oak Park are no longer handgun-free zones, but there are still hoops to jump through in order to possess them in either municipality. There is still no provision for concealed carry in Illinois, and it's still tough as hell for anyone to drive through Illinois being certain to break no laws because of state preemption.

EVERY bank in the Philippines has 3 to 5 security guards armed with a pistol grip shotgun . They also check you and anything you are carrying before letting you in. They also will shoot you if you do not surrender your gun at the door. It is legal to carry a gun in the Philippines if you are a Philippine national and have a permit. You just give your gun to the security guard at the entrance to the mall, bank, store or whatever before you go in. They check it in, and give it back to you when you leave. There are no bank robberies in the Philippines!

I love the fat that everyone can carry out there but I don't think I would be comfortable having someone take my gun from me everytime I went indoors. Not sure about being searched before entering a bank either but I can see how that reduces bank robberies!

That is good but it looks like there are more hurdles to cross. I just hope that the current administration doesn't attempt any national regulations. They are too busy with elections and the economy so we will see what the future brings.

Glad you are ok! That's scary no matter how you slice/dice it!

It would have been funny if you said, "Hey man, thats a nice Sig. Where'd you get it?". JK, glad you're OK. I would have freaked out.

Glad you were not hurt.

I will admit, unless you have to go through security, carry a gun. I always carried at work despite corporate policy. P-32 in a Don Hume pocket holster does the trick for me. Of course if the robber had the jump on my with the pistola in face he is getting money. Not worth loosing your life over some money, only shoot for your life.

Armed employees at a bank? I doubt that will ever happend. Maybe an armed guard, but even then, I never see armed guards at any banks in my area. If I were a teller, I would NOT try and be the hero of the day and get shot for trying to protect the bank's assets. That's what insurance is for. I wouldn't risk my life over a couple bucks an hour. The robber could take all the damn money in the bank for all I care, as long as nobody gets hurt.

It's not the couple of bucks an hour I'm talking about. It's your ass. I am a firm believer in armed citizens. Look at what knowdafish said. It is too risky to rob a bank over there, so it doesn't happen. If there was armed guards here (American banks, etc.), Joe Crackhead would look elsewhere for his next hit. Over here, we leave the shed door open for the raccoons to eat the garbage. The raccoon doesn't care if he has to rip up a couple domestic cats while he is in there.

It has happened (armed employees). That time has come and gone. Society seems to be getting softer and softer as a whole, and criminals are capitalizing on it. Lets see what happens when guns are banned completely some day. It will happen. It is the direction we are headed. I just hope I don't live long enough to see it.

This is what I was getting at.

It is interesting you mention this. I watched the video of the first robbery and had I been there with a gun, there would have been nothing I could do other than dish out the cash. There were 2 men, both with guns and if I were there with a gun I may have been able to take out one man but the other would have shot me or someone else before I could do a thing. However, this robbery was different. The robber did not know I was there. I was behind him and had I been carrying I could have easily taken him down. However, I was not and I didn't dare try to rush a man with a gun. I actually had to quietly let the robber know I was there so he wouldn't become startled by seeing another person and then shoot me. As you said, if he has the gun on you first there is not much you can do. However, if you can get your weapon up before he does or catch him off guard you may be able to stop him. Is it safer to just give a robber the money so he will leave while hoping he doesn't shoot you, or to chance it by defending yourself if you can? They say 99% of robberies do not involve shooting or violence. However, if you have the gun turned on you, then being a 99% statistic or a 1% statistic is up to the man pointing the gun at you. I don't like to leave my fate in the hands of others, especially one threatening my life.

Thats true, but what would have happened if there was multiple armed guards? Or in a perfect world (at least IME) if every employee was armed. Would there be a video to watch?

I like the way you think! However...I don't see that happening anytime soon in this country!
