ok, so my wife got the morning off today so we went to see Fifty Shades
here is my review, and spoilers for anyone who cares,..........
it was kind of whack. It's basically a rich young dude who meets this plain virgin chick and pursues her. he's got this contract that he wants her to sign so that he can tie her up and dominate her. she starts falling for him but struggles with his perversions and wants a normal relationship. the end. I did not expect much, it's not my genre or my cup of tea. it failed to be compelling at all and the acting was meh.
but even when expecting very little, I kept an open mind and tried to go into it unbiased. what the movie fails at is selling me the story. they didn't make me believe the characters, didn't take me on a journey with them. I didn't really feel for the characters nor was there anything that compelled me to root for them. at least if they did a better job at pacing and more realistically build the love story between the main characters I could at least appreciate it and give them props for that. Only thing that sparked my interest, which doesn't necessarily say much, was that there's a mystery about this guy, he's got a backstory that hasn't been revealed. it may explain why he's into the dominating and controlling thing. that was really the only interesting thing about the whole movie for me. the sex scenes weren't even all that. if I was gonna watch the movie just for that, i'd be better off watching late night cinemax or something
but with all that said, it was not as horrid as some reviews I've seen. it was no where near anything memorable but it wasn't as terrible as the critics have said. but my wife did say that they are pretty accurate with the book as far as everything that happened. that's what confused me, I don't see how this would be such a great book. nothing much in the movie would lead me to believe it would be a good read. but, i'm not exactly the target market I guess.
