Should I up his dose of Melafix or keep it as directed by the bottle? Water changes? What kind of salt and how do I use it? Thanks~

fin rot can be treated with marcyn... i'd add salt and keep things quiet around the tank, make sure you have excellent water quality and keep a close eye on him

What kind of salt and how much? Will regular old table salt do? I'll see if I can find that Marcyn stuff, too.

you need aquarium salt as it has no iodine in it

1tbsp per 5gal should be sufficient

Okay... So I just got home from work and of course went to check on my RPB, only to find that he's seemingly worse off already.

I found him on his side, partially laying on his back (His belly was held up because he was /trying/ to right himself) so now he can't even keep himself held upright. I ushered him into a space between the side of the tank and his root to keep him held upright, but now I need to ask you guys this..

Should I still go out and buy salt and maracyn to treat him, or is it too late? The last thing I want to do is spend a chunk of money and use the products when they aren't even going to save my poor RPB.

I hate dilemas.

depends you can always use those meds in the future if needs be, its up to you and each situation. My last rhom was so bad i euthanized it cos i felt bad keeping it in that state when i knew it would prob wouldnt recover.

As i say its your decision. I find the best way is decapitation but if you cant do that try clove oil in water (in a bucket) to sedate and then freezer.
