Update on Merlion Dreamfish Asian arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In my opinion the way an Asian arowana (or any tropical fish bought for a home tank) turns out is 50% the genetics of the fish, and 50% the skill of the keeper. I've seen skilled keepers do amazing things with a cheaper fish and I have sold very expensive fish to people who don't do a good job keeping the fish, which then gets ruined (gill curl, chipped scales, fin rot etc.). If this is your first Asian arowana I recommend not spending more money than you are comfortable spending on a fish that could die (usually due to jumping). Similarly, I hope you have a big enough tank. As a bare minimum you need a 180 gallon; preferable is a 230-300 gallon tank. Make sure the turning radius (depth of the tank) is at least 2 feet, preferable 2.5-3 feet. Scroll around www.arowanaclub.ca and also check out a really old website, www.arofanatics.com. If you are not on the FB sites, those two forum sites should help gain the knowledge you seek.

Thank you for your thoughtful and honest response.
I have plenty of room in the tank for it as I have built 2 of them in advance of an Arowana already. I started with my normal purchased 180G then went and built an additional 240G ( wasted build from the 180 really as it is almost the same ) and 500G tanks ~ I just kept building and wanting bigger for the fish :) Almost an addiction now to this point. I want to build a pond in my basement however cant get a go ahead from the significant other on that one.... YET ! haha

Regarding the Fish though, you are right. I will consider this for sure and make sure that I am totally ready.

Thank you as always
I should just bite the bullet and grab your MerLion UR 7" you have now ! Nervous of my ability now and maybe need to learn more yet ... Hmmmm

That Merlion Blood Red is now spoken for. I only have one fish left in this coming order. But I don't recommend buying one until you are feeling totally comfortable. Also, chances are you can find one in your local online market without the hassle of shipping one in from me. I do multiple orders per year, so if you do decide to get a fish from me, there really is no rush. Good luck and have fun doing your online research :)

And the most expensive fish I import, the Merlion Ultimate Ocean Blue. There are only a handful of these in Canada
