update on my blacks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Beauties! I'm hoping to get one this weekend!

Thanks. You'll love them.

Nice. Do you know if anyone ever kept a group of Blacks as adults? I wonder how that would work?

Thanks, the closest I know of is pairs or mixed with silvers. I have a feeling before it is all said and done I'll end up with 5+ like I have had with silvers.

i can I ensure full survival rate for a baby black aro when I first get it? what do you feed them? thanks.

I started with FD bloodworms and then got them onto pellets. Out of 20(sold the rest) I got I lost 1. That one I lost was due to a retard moment by me. It was smaller and getting picked on by the other 3 I have now. I moved it into a 15gal to get bulked up. Forgot I had a pair of c. myersi in there. With in an hour I found the aros dead. I saw the myersi and thought "oh ****" and then found the aro.

Best thing for you to do is have a cycled tank well covered and plenty of food. I love sponge filters and floating plants for my aros to start in.

how do I make sure they don't bash their barbells? I'm planning to get one and grow it out in a 20 gallon divided tank until it's big enough for my armatus.

Thanks, one has for sure taken charge but they are getting along well. As you know this is one of the best results for groups of aros with me. I have a hell of a time getting groups to work.

Right now I have them with some plecos and small tetras. Once they are large enough they are going in with my bdxleo. I may add some others like geos, threadfin acaras, tarpon, payara, maybe some loaches or a mbu puffer. I am running some trials with a pair of mbu puffers right now.

I am thinking of getting a Black Aro and growing it out with My gar`s , tinfoils and Catfish in my 200 Gallon what do you think about that situation ? lol And I checked your site pretty cool ! I would love one day to have a small business like that :)

awesome beauty

Nice pick ups... Hope they work out for you. A group of blacks will be a nice sight.

Thanks.

Dividers and aros don't work. Tried many times.

Thanks and I wouldn't raise it with them. Have it alone until it is much larger. Gars like to eat aros.

As to the business it is more work then it looks.

Yeah no I wont literally raise him with them. I will grow him out till hes their size than introduce him. I have had pretty good success with my group so far with the eception of a silly choice. But I had to try and had to remove once or twice but I knew it wouldn't work long term so I tested my theory(Black Wolf fish).
I also have them on pellets and flakes although flakes are more for the Tinfoil and Black Orge Catfish. I feed insects and frozen`s like blood worms and krill, off shrimp and scallop or smelts. And of course occasional live Minnows I have a chance maybe to buy a Black for 100$ I think I might and grow it out than try in my 200 gallon and than worse case if it doesn't work, just good reason to get another big tank lol :)
But thanks for the tips and I love your setup man awesome !
