Like I said, totally drive able..:P. Where in Utah though? Dan used to live near Ogden or so, and that only took about 11 hrs. :P. I am trying to get rid of some of my xingu II...haha..but no one wants them....*sigh*

Finally!! I can see them...

I love the tail. Very nice. Do you have just the two?

I'm in the Salt Lake valley. How fast did you say you drive?

I can see it and thats what matters...:D. I have 3 of them still...:D Hard to get all three of them in one shot.

Its not that far really...i googled it and its only about 12hrs. I lose an hour cuz of the time change too though.

Hey PP, was wondering if you could shed a little info on what you did to get rid of the dreaded HITH. Did you just give em' better water quality or did you take other measures??

I'm really envious of those fishies of yours! Been keeping fish for around 30 years and never bothered to give pikes a second thought until this site burrowed into my brain. Those purdy things you got there are suddenly making pike keeping logical as opposed to my old way of thinking of them as just drab@ss pale obnoxious game fish.

Hmmmmm :grinno: :grinyes: :grinno: :grinyes:

Hahaha. I got rid of the HITH with LOTS of water changes and a varied diet. Thats it. Took me about 2 months, but its almost gone now completely. I have harder water though, so that might have something to do with it as well. Pikes aren't drab and boring, haha. Most species are gorgeous. They have attitudes though, as I've pointed out several times, but people still seem surprised when their pikes beat the crap outa a fish.

I would say Pikes are one of the most prone to HITH - but it usually happens whey get larger (in my case) - what do you think caused it? carbon ? live food? lack of clean water? do you do frequent changes?

Mine came with it in straight from the supplier. They are from pristine water conditions, same as Satanoperca daemon....in other words...they were HIGHLY susceptable to HITH. I haven't had any problem wit it till i got these guys, and they aren't being that much of a problem either. Just keep them on a VARIED diet, keep up on the water changes, the more the better, and just keep an eye on them. Some people make them out to be hard to keep, but it seems pretty simple to me...haha.

More questions!!
Did you feed your fish any veggie matter to help eliminate the HITH? If so, please tell. I lost a really nice synodontis to HITH a few years ago. It was SAD SAD SAD! For some reason I can't help thinking it was from lack of greenery. Just asking because I don't ever want that to happen again.

Cool substrate. Sand? crushed coral?? what is it? Is it part of the reason for alkalinity?

Could you keep something else with those guys like a pleco, synodontis etc?

Sorry so many questions. Can't help it. Those fish + tank looks more entertaining than tv. ................No Really! :headbang2

My pikes are greedy, lemme put it to you that way. Algae wafers, sinkin pellets, mysis, cocktail, you name it they eat it. For the most part veggies aren't a part of their diet. Like I don't go out of my way to feed them veggies. Just keep up on the water changes, be faithful and diligent about them. Its when you start slackin and cutting corners that crap starts to happen.

Its actually sand. I've got a mixture of sandblasting sand and just regular play sand in there. I love it, the fish love it, and its just fun all the way around. The reason for my high pH and hardness is cuz I live in the country and we have well water, so out hardness is naturally high. sucks a bit...but the fishies are doing aight so i don't mind. if i want to breed them though i am gonna have to get my RO unit going again, but that will be a while as they are all smmmalll.

I keep my pikes with other cichlids, but you can keep them with plecos, larger cats (not TSN and RTC though), and some of the larger tetras. I guess dats. aren't a good idea though...hahaha.

Its kewl bro, bring on the questions! Thats what I'm a mod. for....answering the questions! No prob.!!
