Big house move yesterday, but not the fish tank.
Woke up early and started to move furniture. Workmen came and started at 8 a.m. As soon as they started my RTG started to act strange. Panting and losing slime coat.
I acted quickly and covered the tank, switch lights off and added salt. It started to calm down but was still panting as little bit by 9.30a.m. It seemed ok. 12p.m it seemed normal, no signs of panting but still shedding slime a little, i just presumed this was from early morning and nothing to worry about.

2p.m a friend said they looked at it and it was swimming normally. I was at the new house so i didn't see it. 5P.M i went back to0 the old house and it was belly up dead in the corner of the tank.

Why did it die?
Things that were a bit strange over the last few days. I puked twice. It's done this before so i wasn't overly bothered. It looked like it had something stuck in its throat the night before last. I threw some MS in for the dats and it was particularly hard. The RTG snapped a piece up and it looked like it tried to swallow without chewing. It soon resumed swimming as normal though.
On the day of the move there was fish puke in the tank against and it had pellets in it!
I think the 10 weeks without food is what killed it, along with it eating too much after such a long time without food. When i started to feed it worms again (to get it strong before the tank move) i was careful not to over feed. Not careful enough it seems.
The carcass had a little bit of blood round the anus but I'm not sure it that's normal with a dead fish.
Upset? No. Not even when i found it, i've read of grown men crying and all that but it just didn't affect me that way.
Angry? You better believe it!! It died because of something i did i presume and that annoys me. And because i didn't see it coming. I was jsut getting to the point when i thought i had fish keeping nailed.
What next? Not really sure. Super Red maybe. HBRTG or XBack maybe. Can't really justify having a monster tank without a monster fish can i?

WOW sad news! That is a beautiful fish!
That sure would hurt with a loss like that!
Again sorry to hear!

Any possiblity of it being startled while workers were in the house and it jumped or swam into the glass? Fish puke would skyrocket the ammonia levels. Sucks though it looked like a gorgeous fish

No, I was watching it.
Checked the water and it was fine. All other fish are still in the tank waiting for the relocation tomorrow. It's got to be not eating for 10 weeks then eating too much. I really can't think of anything else.

I'm sorry for your loss. It could die from the stress of all the moving activities around it. BTW, puking in animal is not good sign. It's the sign of the environment is not optimal, thus, food didn't get digested properly. Puking may also cause internal damage.

It has happened in the past. I just found a jelly like blob on occasion. I wasn't sure what it was in the past because i had plants in the tank as well. Now i don't have any plants and i know it was the Arowana. It's not like it was chucking loads up.
3 times in it's life it has done it. What is not optimal? weekly WC of 50%. Massive wet and dry filter. pump rated to cycle the tank 9 time an hour (205gal).

It could just be the stress of the workmen, but it seemed to calm down.

Such a beautiful fish. Bummer man.

Yes, it is a bummer. For me an expensive fish. I'm not sure if i will do it again.
In Thailand people are superstitious, my wife said something that made me feel instantly better. She said that sometimes if an animal you care for dies it is taking some bad luck or injury away from you, in a karma way of thinking.
Not sure if i believe that, but it sounds nice.

I don't really know which way to go now to be honest. I'm not comfortable with the way it went out so quickly, and for no apparent reason. If it had jumped at least i could point to how.
I don't really want to think that my experience with Asian Arowana ended in failure.
Like i wrote i felt like i had fish keeping well under control until yesterday.
