DDragon, i fed it about 2 weeks before the move. It had definitely been picking at pellets as well, probably about 7 to 8 weeks into starving it.
I fed it about 8 to 10 worms on the first feed, and missed a day then repeated. After a week of doing that i fed it as much as it wanted. It started to pig out though, it was eating SW i fed it, some pellets that I'd put in the tank while feeding it SW, and it also picked up a few pieces of MS i'd thrown in for my Dats.
I also think the 10 weeks had more to do with its death than just the removal guys shifting furniture and shocking it.
Regarding eating less, It's obvious they wouldn't eat nearly as much as they get in a tank were they in the wild. They really slow down at the 15 inch mark. Sometimes mine went weeks without showing any interest in food, hence i wanted it on stick as a main because it's easier and cleaner for my tank. My tanks real clean now LOL!
East_bay. I offered it aro sticks every day of the 10 weeks mate. I didn't neglect to feed it, i wanted it on sticks. I didn't think it would take 10 weeks though, 5 or 6 yes.
Thing is once it got to 6 weeks i felt like no turning back because i knew if i were to try again to get it on sticks i would have to go at least 6 weeks and beyond. Its stressful for the owner as well as the fish, so i just kept going. But with the house move looming i wanted it to be strong for the move. 2 weeks before i gave it worms. There were a few sticks in the tank and it took them as well as the worms i was giving it.
I got it on sticks but ultimately i lost the fish. I am going to buy another RTG some time in the future, and it will be on sticks at an early age.
I was talking with my wife last night and she suggested i try different fish.
I'm adamant to get another RTG. I'm really not happy that i killed it, and i need to rectify the mistakes i made with it by owning another.
