Thought I'd post some pics of the wolves swimming around here.

!st 3 are of the 2 Hoplias in the big tank. A chubbier one - blunt short head - looks almost like a cross between an average hoplias and a gold wolf. Seems topped out size wise (11-12") The other is hunchbacked, redish color in the fins - thought to be "Iguaza".

Next batch of pics is of a different tank - 4 CF Panara Lacs, 1 Aimara, few rays, misc ATF, Masheer.

Here's some pics I took of their jaws.....

Can kind of make out a few pores in a few pics. All are of cf panara lacs.

I counted 4 pores, nice update... But uh one thing.. I know you lost the big aimara unfortunately, you said the 2 hoplias in the big tank and didn't put any of Lucy... You still have her right?

Yup, Lucy is still here, just didn't take any pics of her, same ol Lucy.

I obviously am no good at the pore counting cause to me it seems like more then 4 or you saying 4/side? What does 4 mean?

Lol yea 4 on one side 8 on both. 4 means mala. And good to hear, had me worried, she's a great fish from what you share, I'd like to have one some day.

Beautiful Alan. You're leading the way with these predators man, keep updates coming. I have absolutely zero interest in wolves and have never seen the appeal, but yours have me reconsidering man, we'll done brother.

So the cf Panara lacs have 4 pores like moe mentioned.

It could be either mala, brasi or intermedius. Cannot be lac or cf lac. If u get a nice side view shot then can count the lateral line scales and tell for sure.

Just based on pores and LL. Looks mala like moe said from folds. But in tank folds shots will make things off.

I've seen intermedius with similar folds and brasi will look the same. So hard to tell. But looks mala.

These are an undescribed species, I'm calling it lol, they show to many traits on both sides. Their folds don't touch like a malas would it's more like australis, they have the body shape of a lac, but have 4 pores like mala, they gotta be something new. Can't be brasi as they are atleast 10 inches by now? And brasi is suppose to stay small like the australis you have in the big tank. And intermedius idk. But then malas can vary so much and it's said theirs more than one species under that name, and now you see how fast things get hard.

On a separate note, on the big iguaza I counted 41 scales on the LL, which I believe is also mala. I'm having trouble with the smaller guys. Their pattern mess with me, but I got 40-41 on one of them.

The larger Iguaza in the big tank is probably 16". The CF panara lacs are probably around a foot. They look identical to the "Iguaza" in the big tank.

We gotta see what they max out at that might play a role? Come back in 10 years lol jk
