Update on Rare Wolves

More pics....

My eyes don't work well enough to count scales, so figured I'd take some pics for anyone else that wants to give it a whirl. I can't believe these to be some form of hunchback malas but who knows? I remember talking to people claiming to have seen 30" Iguazas.....

I got 39 on one fish (second to last) and 42 on another (first pic) C Chicxulub can you do that thing with the dots to count them? If I could I would

Anyone else wanna chime in on what has to be some of the most expensive Malas ever sold? lol

Chicxulub ???

I think these are Malas. Looking at the folds they have similar to Malas. Brasi don't and it looks like folds of intermedius. If these are bigger than a foot and size of 30in then not brasi either.

Here's a pic of a very odd looking wolf....thought to be different but ID'd as mala. Just an example of how these vary. I'm sure you all have seen this pic prior.

Definitely bigger then a foot. Smallest measured 13.5".....

That pic looks like what we know as "Iguaza" or "Red Lac". Makes sense cause the last person that I remember having one of these ended up selling after getting the "Mala" ID...... Sold by G as a "Red Lac"

So what do we recon the "Green Eyed Lacs" are? Brasi's?

Maybe Lacerdae really are the rarest of all Hoplias afterall......

* was joking about the most expensive malas. This phrase could be potentially misunderstood depending on point of view. ;)

Green eye lacs aren't brasi. If I remember correctly u posted a jaw shot and had 5-6 pores so it could only be of Australis or lac. Folds will vary but the pores won't lie.

Brasi and intermedius can't be told apart. The folds look similar and the only thing separating them are lateral line counts, angular head, and LL count.

So the pics below is from Liamirons and his so called lacs. But they have 4 pores and the folds are off. This is likely intermedius.

So what's a brasi?!!!

I suspect this is brasi but can't be sure as it's an old pic. But the pic below is from a website and was ID'd as Australis.

It's obviously not Australis. Is it brasi???????????

Look at the head shape and color. Of course we will never know the size and it went to the Asian market.

The head shape is off for intermedius but those folds are typical once bigger or full grown. The folds will look this between intermedius and brasi.

The pic above looks like the small wolf I have in my big tank. The jaw lines are a mile apart and the head is unmistakably short/blunt.

QuDodger QuDodger can u post a pic of ur intermedius. A head shot (close up) to compare and see if all intermedius look like this. I will research more.

Isn't Raymond (Amazing fish) a peddler of Intermedius? I just bought one a few months ago.

Jaw looks like the fish you posted of Liam's.

Doesn't look anything even close to the "Malaguazas"

We should be able to differentiate species by location just like Dorado right? Example - Ken goes to location X and brings back wolves so they have to be --------.

This is just about irritating me enough to get the gloves out , get the wolves out and start counting pores............
