I just sent an email to Atlantic Firearms who is suppose to carry them and also give a discount to Arfcom members.

A little OT but you wouldnt happen to have any leads on any non commercial and non import marked Soviet Makarovs, preferably made in 1977 would you? Im suppose to trade a guy this weekend my new Rock Islan Armory for a reportedly non import marked military Soviet Mak with matching mag, a good deal for me if its true!

77 no but I know of a 72 floating around and can check up on that. Grenada Bring back. Unmatched mags but from what I understand the mags where lost in country and the two are east german replacements that are with it. Holster is original and shows wear and personalized markings from the guy whom captured it and it's previous owner. Cuban belt and extra two mag pouch of unknown affinity included.

If you can get the one mentioned that would be a great deal. Non-import Soviet Maks can be tough to find and bring a premium price.

Any bringback papers? Actually Grenada was WAY past the glory days of bring backs lol.

That does sound pretty interesting. Looking for a '77 as the AKM needs a little sister. I should hear from the guy this weekend, if the deal falls through I will get back to you.

I met this Russian vendor (ArmsBlue) at the National Gun Day show last weekend and he assured me in his thick accent that he could get me any Soviet Mak I wanted. His prices werent too bad either, import marked were running about $500 and non imports about $700.

I think you know the answer about bring back papers...NO.... But it is legal in all respects and was brought in under the correct procedures for C&R arms importation. It will not have an Import mark as it was a private and not commercial import. Much like my SVD, Yugo and Albanian SKS which where also brought in in a similar manner back when you could do so without so much BS. Well the SVD... was more complicated and came from Canada but under similar import rules at the time with much expense.

I'd be wary of Mr. Armsblue on this.. But I will say I have worked with him myself and was not at all disappointed in many other areas. I have obtained a few rare items from him.

He had some fantastic stuff including some Toks that would just make you drool. I heard things about him and a certain gun club in a certain state that Im sure you know about that seemed a little odd to me. Not going to go further into that but....gun show BS probably.

Man do us all a favor and throw up some SVD pron! If SVDs werent running about as much as an M-16 is these days, I would love to have one!

I did a stint in the army and was trained to use warsaw pact weapons so i know a little. I know your rifle is not an AK-47 and was never fornished with splatic but it can be done, ive seen it and dose look better but thats just my opinion, The am is esentialy an Ak 47 though admitedly improved and has better acrruacy.

No, we can not purchase live firarms in Australia, thank god but we can by Deacs, i myself have deactivated ww2 peroid rifles and a few soviet era relics and pistols.

What is the history behind the gun? just asking why you would pay so much for a an old AK?

Yeah I have seen a few Toks from him that I was dying over. My 43 is from him.

And sure here is one or two to drool over. The NDM and Ishvesk...
Still have the Poly front end and 24 power PSO on the Ishvesk I just love this thing.

I'm assuming your saying here the AKM is improved and has better accuracy. Actually I do not think so at all. The AKM is not improved over the AK-47 at all aside from weight reduction and somewhat improved control ability and rate of fire. The AK-47 especially in the second model is really accurate. The later AKM with the stamped receiver lost a lot in comparison. Still however the AKM made up for this in many ways. Weight, balance, ease of manufacture. It is not as accurate but is a magnificent piece of machinery in every way otherwise and certainly does it's job beautifully.

My opinion still is the Zastava M-70 is the queen of the AKM types and nothing comes close to them. :)

Perentie, if youre into collecting WWII deacts then you know having a rifle "correct" as issued is a big deal.

Due to an arms treaty between the US and Russia, there is no trade in "military style arms" between the two countries, hence a true Soviet made AKM, especially one "used" is pretty uncommon.

The particular history behind this rifle is pretty interesting. At some point after being made by the Russians it was sold to the Iranians. There, who knows what it could have been used in. Training, perhaps even in the Iran-Iraq War. Then, sometime in late 2001 early 2002 she was sold/given to the terrosist group called the Palestinian Liberation Organization. With the help of other terror groups such as Hezzbollah this rifle along with many others, rockets, and bomb making supplies were loaded onto a cargo shipped called the Karine-A off the coast of an Iranian island. Luckily before the ship could deliver its load to the terrorists, Israeli Commandos intercepted the ship and seized the cargo. Now instead of being used to kill innocent Israelis, she sits safe in my home! :)

Hey JD7.62, nice history, thats what i was after, if it was just another AKM then i wouldnt really understand why it would be worth so much, a story makes these things that much more special. I have an Arisaka rifle, picked up in an Atol and was later used in 2 ww2 movies and for reanacments, kept all original and was well looked after, many different japanese and russian medols, badges and even some very special and not often seen millitary support gruop meddalions. I have a Nambu pistol found on the kokoda track, a deac makarov Pm, a few soviet gasmasks, A japanese naval land based aa gun shell, trench art, you got to love history especialy when you can hold it in your own hands. So i do get why you love your AKM, personaly my fav is the AK-103, im also lovin the Vityaz-SN, SVDS, Mp-443 Grach. My mate in Russia owns an AK-74M the lucky bugger.

you got any more rifles?

cheers-
