I think you need a arowana as a top swimmer;)
I would love to have a black but I feel the 24” tank width just isnt fair for a fish that can get so long. The pom pom knife was being considered because of the similarity and it is also called the arowana knife due to its look.

I'm starting to like knives. Bgk look pretty cool
I have always liked the way they swim. I wish the clowns and royals did not get soo big... they look pretty good at the small to medium stage in life. I dont like their adult stage look as much. Bgk are cool but at this point it would take forever to grow one out that I would feel safe to put with polys. I just imagine the little tail tip getting munched on.

Okay, I think Ive decided to leave all the polys alone and maybe add a couple cichlids.

These are ones I am considering since they are milder/smaller types
Amatitlania sajica (worried that it might be too small adult size and get ate ... thoughts?)
Herotilapia multispinosa (Small but a bit bigger than sajica)
Hypsophrys nicaraguensis

These are some others Im looking at:
Cribroheros robertsoni
Thorichthys meeki
Satanoperca jurupari

Still in consideration:
Oscar
Severum
Pike cichlid of some sort

So the problem will be whether the pearsei can handle the fish in question. She is so calm that she can get bullied pretty easy. Having seen my regani and snook turn on her I know she does not have the guts to go at it with anything large so thats why Im looking at smaller fish. I do think an oscar would work out also since they are king of push overs. Or I could grow out a couple more pearsei and try breeding her......

So any cichlid suggestions to go with my bichirs and pearsei?

I would suggest the Nicaragua cichlids and smaller saxatalis pikes.

The Nics seem like a good choice due to size and temperament. The pike that Wet Spot has is the sveni pike which seem like a decent size and temperament too.
Size wise should be good and most pikes in the saxatalis are calm. Will leave the pearsi alone.

Not trying to buy out pikes from under you but what vendors do you like to order pike from?
I am choosing Wet Spot because they are close and shipping is only about $25. Plus I dont really have a huge order and dont want to spend too much money on just shipping....

The ones I were looking at are from aqua imports. But they’re shipping policies are a little worrisome. But they have good reviews on fb.

The svenis should be a good purchase from
Wet spot. A group will look really good.
