Subtle differences that the wife does not see... they are not big colorful fish so they are ‘plain’ to her.

I have owned some more colorful cichlids in the past like midas, red bay snook and regani so I understand where she comes from with the comment.

Boo on the fancy goldfish. The bioload is too high to put them in a tank imo. Make the wife clean the tank with you. Say its a quality time bonding activity. lol. chanting: *CLEAN THE TANK CLEAN THE TANK* At least they let you guys keep the tanks, so that's support in its own way. on second thought, maybe turn the goldfish idea into a outdoor pond!
