Bump?... This was a horrible thread but I said I would do it so I'm stickin to it... Today I bout from petsolutions.com 1 108 Watt T5 light, 1 Small CO2 System, Red Sea Flora Dose Tablets, and Some Spirulina Pellets all for around $160

Whats the co2 for?

looks good i think you need bigger sea shells and more rocks?

The shells actually are big enough... The Brevis fit into the smallest shells there with great ease... but I will probably be looking for Neothauma Shells in the future... and yes I will be probably getting more and different rocks... I would like to make this as much a biotope aquarium as I can

The CO2 is for all of the plants I intend to have... Right now I only have 5 Jungle Val but intend to have a couple anubias on the rock work and then have some Riccia Fluitans either floating or attached to a rock... Most people can get away with not having a CO2 system because they have enough fish for the plants they have... But since I only have 9 small fish and intend to have a lot of plants its quite hard to keep the CO2 levels up

But update on the system... I received all of the supplies about a week ago and am quite happy with everything... 2 of my jungle vals have already sent out runners...so hopefully in the near future my tank will be covered with the val... the CO2 diffuser (Ladder Form) took a while to get diffusing correctly but from what I read that is normal

Whats up bro, really looking forward to seeing your tanks progress. going against what the first few posts on your thread said I think in good that your using your hard earned money for a hobby that you obviously have a passion for and want to learn and strive in and can have an accomplishment to be proud of, instead of doing what the most 16 yr old guys do, spend it on beer, ganja, and parties. (I know from past experience lol not worth it) Im actually in the same boat as you, I just lost my entire peacock/mbuna/hap stock in my 125 tank to an unfortunate incident and just decided to start up a TANGANYIKA tank with a similar idea as yours, rocks both sides for some Julidochromis and Enantiopus melanogenys Zambia, shell dwellers in the middle and a few calvus's for size and free swimming.
So keep up the enthausiasm, and keep us posted.

So for the past week I've been busy in Minnesota, Boundary Waters to be exact. Best trip of my life so far. I laughed, I cried, I almost collapsed from the exhaustion of all the portages. My mom took care of the tank for me I turned on the light today. HORRIBLY COVERED WITH ALGAE. So, Sunday or Monday I will have to clean it out. So far the tank is pretty much the same.

So, Another small update without pictures... I've found another job, working at Culver's...Not my favorite job but it's a job... I should be getting my first paycheck from there on Friday (Hopefully) I've worked 15 hours at $7.25/hour... So hopefully this weekend or next week I will be able to finally obtain my group of Cyprichromis and Some Snails... I might also get some bristlenose plecos...(Are they good at cleaning up algae?)... and also another thing that has changed in the tank is my 5 Jungle Val have turned into 7... Finally seeing some progress on the tank... I will get some pictures after I get my Cyprichromis... I will also update the rocks ( I plan to get more of the same type and I might switch it to A large Rock Pile on one side of the tank (Hopefully as a safe haven for any fry I get from the Cyprichromis) and then the two pieces of driftwood and shells on the other... Maybe I can eventually get some Xenotilapia or Enantiopus (Or something else of the same nature)

Cool cool, bristlenose do just as good as any other pleco, except I believe they are more tollerant of the higher ph water. but my normal leopard sailfin pleco did just fine with my africans. I actually just gave him away because they are doo doo machines and produce more waste then any other fish in my tank. just have to stay onto of the glass alittle more. I actually like the way the algea looks on my lace rock, and I have a few fish with a veg diet to eat any excess.
Just so you know, drift wood brings down the ph pretty drastically, the ph in my oscar tank with drift wood is 6.0 and for tangs you want to keep it at 8.5 -9.

waiting for some pics.

F**k yeah! I love me some culvers. All of my family is back in wisconsin and I'm back there almost every year. Culvers is usually one of my first stops getting into town. Maybe you could ship some back to me....lol

FYI - Tanganyikans in general have a need for high 02 levels. Just watch everything with that co2 unit as it may have detrimental effects on your fish. I have a bunch of cyp fry available as well so pm me if you're interested.

Well, Any Update pics will be up next week Tuesday or Wednesday. I get my paycheck Saturday night, Since I can't just show up Friday night and ask for it unless I work... So that means I can't get it cashed until Monday... and hopefully I go to the LFS that has the Cyprichromis, BN Plecos, and Snails... and I know that about Driftwood (Especially mine since it's actually quite old driftwood)... I'm hoping to get a PH tester kit sometime soon maybe next week as well... Is there any other type of rock (Like Holey Rock; I just don't like the looks of Holey Rock) that raises the PH?

That is just like my grandma. She lives in Florida for 6 months out of the year (now she lives there the whole year). And She use to come up to Wisconsin every summer to see me and my cousins. Everytime, and I mean everytime, she would see a Culvers she would always ask "Does everyone want to stop and get a small dish of Custard?" and of course us being kids said yes.

I also need to take a look at that... Since I've heard during the night Plants don't supply Oxygen (The whole Photosynthesis, Ahhh 9th grade Biology)... So I'm just adding more CO2 then needed... and I've really delayed cleaning my tank since I had chores/errands to do on Monday... and I worked yesterday and Today... But I will get it cleaned tomorrow... Also for the Cyprichromis Fry... if the store is sold out of them next week I will probably take you up on that offer

:irked: Not a good update

Got my Paycheck today. It came out to be $35. So I thought to myself " I've worked 25 hours since Tuesday, July 20th. So my pay period ended up being between July 18th and August 1st. But I've worked 11 hours in that time. ((7.25 X 11)-(79.75 X .15)) + 10 = 77.79 That is was my check should roughly come out to, but it didn't. So I will talk to someone about this tomorrow. So I don't know if I will have enough to buy the Cyprichromis, snails, and pleco. Since I need to put $15 in various gas tanks that I have used, "Oh the Joys of being 16." I will still try and get an update on the growth of the plants and the new equipment being used on Monday, but until then here is a picture to keep you guys occupied

coral raises ph but its expensive to do a coral rock decor, you could always do a crushed coral substrate. Also you could do african cichlid live sand like this http://www.amazon.com/Carib-Sea-Ecco-Complete-Freshwater-African/dp/B0002DH0X0 (<-thats what I use as well as tanganyika buffer) but on the top of your list of things to get should definitely be the necessary test kits, ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates. without those you dont know whats really going on in your tank, and especially with tangs, they are pretty sensitive fish.
