Basically found a 125 gallon for $100 and I'm considering getting in and having it replace a 75. But would it be better to wait for say a 180+ gallon to pop up? I guess the real question is how many more stocking options do I have with a 2ft wide tank?

I personally would wait for a 180 gallon or larger for the wider foot print. What specie of fish were you particularly interested in ?

I really like tsn, my lfs had a juresen? I believe and I want it so bad but I think that would even get to big for a 180. I would also love a large fire eel. Jardini also would be cool.

I know it may be hard but wait it out for the largest aquarium possible or rule out the TSN because it will need more than 2 ft to turn around which you already realize this.

None of the fish you listed would live permanently in a 180 gallon either, and it's not often that I see 180+ tanks for 100$. I would probably get the 125 if I were you and look into some smaller species to keep. If you want TSN, Juruense, Arowanas, you are going to need more like a 300+ gallon tank.

Buy the 125, take it apart and use a panel for a plywood tank. Really your cheapest option if you want a large tank. I would go 72"×36"×24" then you can keep the fish you want.

The 125 is obviously better than a 75, but it's not a significant jump. The 180 is dramatically better than a 75, imo, not just because of the width and length which opens up many species of combos, but also because of the extra 105 gallons of water volume.

Only problem with waiting Is larger tanks don't show up to often and when they do their not cheap. $100 for a 125 where I live is a steal and I'm sure the only reason is because the guy selling them bought them in bulk so I doubt he keeps fish he probably just flips merchandise. But I do think it'll be better to wait for a 180+. I would like to get into the larger bichirs or at least more of the smaller species (I have a delhezi and sengal now). Lima shovelnose also interest me as well. I want to get into geophagus and having a group I think would be best. I live near greentree and they have a brand new 220 stand and tank + lids and lights for 1200 so if I want a big tank that's probly the biggest I could ever get and at that price for brand new I thinks it's a steal too.. but still not cheap

As a person who keeps fish despite the fact that they will outgrow my tank, get the best tank you can afford. I'm also looking at upgrading, but I have to be realistic as well. The fish I have will eventually require a large tank that I will have to save up for-over 200 gallons. I would wait until a really good deal on a larger tank comes up; get the largest tank you can get a good deal on to house your fish. That's my suggestion.
