^This. You would be suprised how frequently an old heater leaks voltage into a tank. It happened to me when I ordered my Odoe's, as well as another member who recently ordered fish.

Well she has only jumped once since Wednesdays bout of madness. It was this morning at around 5:00, I was woken up by two large splash/thuds, and then back to nothing. Progress?!

Also noteworthy, last night before lights out, she "wolfed" down an earthworm, a chunk of tilapia fillet, and half a smelt soaked in vita chem! I was greeted by a large poo this morning. I don't think I've ever been so excited to see a fish eat/poop!

What is your plan for after the 240 ?

Easier than you think if you really research it on the internet. If you've got the money, hire someone and you be the supervisor. Not as expensive as you'd think. If you properly planned ahead. Good luck.

I have a good friend that is a contractor, he could be an invaluable asset if I decide to go that route. I just worry about leaks with a plywood build. I feel like a rugged fiberglass tank would be a bit more solid, but then again and as mentioned before, I'm not a carpenter!

First thing I was thinking when I read your first post is a Hide. Some sterile or new drift is what I would do. It will soak up impurities from the water quality in your q/t that might be hiding and release tannin to soften it up a bit. Add a massive bubbler for oxygenation unless you have a devise for that ie. Filter/sump. That species of Hoplias tend to live in large rivers and overflowed land that acquires a vast amount of algae from direct and indirect sunlight. They use this to blend there skin color for predation. This could help greatly until you put in your 240. I can also suggest the same idea for the tank your about to habit your fish. Hope this helps you. Can't wait to see your new beast thriving!

Pentair 720. 96"x48"x36". I've also been toying with the idea of a plywood build with similar dimensions, but I'm not much of a carpenter...

I have the same pond but all white. I love it. Super light can move with a few guys and rugged. Plus little concern over leaks and no stand.

Thanks for the input! I'm currently running two Hydro Pro V sponges, a cascade 1000, and I have a 660 gph powerheads for added flow. This is coupled with ~90% water changes every three days to keep nitrates <10 ppm.

I'm planning on having a constant supply of IAL in the the 240 to keep the water slightly stained. Also going to have a few large Pothos to suck up any rogue nitrates I miss with my 90% wc's.

I can't wait to see my new monster thriving too! I'll be posting regular updates as to her progress!

Good to hear you've been having success with the Pentair! As it stands currently, that is the option I'm leaning towards more heavily.
