Aimara move upstream to spawn an that water IS NOT clean and clear. In my opinion the water changes might not be a good idea. Not that large anyway.Your fish is used to aged soft water with a low ph if it's wild caught, and I'm sure it is.If it were me, I might get a new plastic garbage can and age the water somewhat, then pump it in. I have had very good luck with rain water also. As for the face smashing, cut a piece of Styrofoam to fit the inside dimensions of your tank. Let it float. The only problem is if the wolf gets on top of it. You could cut it into pieces that are the width of the aquarium and leave them about 6" or so long(if you were looking at the tank head on). That way they will tip over and dump the fish back into the water if it gets on top of the Styrofoam. Make sure to use think Styrofoam. The waters surface tension will keep it "stuck" to the surface, for lack of another word. Just the ends of the tank need it really and it just has to be a tight enough fit to not move around.Seems like the nitrates are getting really high for some reason. If it's the only resident of the tank,I'd definitely get some other non-spooky target or dither fish to let it know nothing is after him/her. All these things I have tried with success at on time or another.floating plants and the plants with the suction cups on them that looks like a vine somewhat helped with a wild GATF right after I got it. The plants let them know that there is something in front of them anyway. I hope this helps. I've racked my brains on it. Really sucks and aggravating to have a fish act that way. Maybe something as simple as moving it to the bigger tank will work. Good luck.
