if you need a good vet, look up dr. greg mertz (the odd pet vet) he's arguably the best exotic vet in new england

I have seen some worse than that pull though but the chances are still slim. Just patch him up for the time being with gauze and an ace bandage. change the bandaging every few hours and while doing to rinse out the wound with a saline solution.

I agree, I've seen and cared for turtles that have been through worse. For the most part they are survivors and can pull through some pretty traumatic wounds. Keep the wound as clean as possible. That goes for the tank water too. You're going to have to keep this up until the wound heals over. Taking it to a vet is not a bad idea. They might be able to inject it with some antibiotics.

Thanks again, I found a good article on how to keep him for a few days...will call around some more tomorrow. I'm not totally optimistic at the moment...not up on my turtle anatomy, but where the big opening is it appears to be his lung, or close to it, and there is white foam coming out of one of the punctures. Poor guy, I feel so bad. If I could afford to take him to the vet, I would with no hesitation, but I've had some financial troubles lately and I truly can't.

DONT give up on him, he will make it, Ive seen way worse than that. Do what you can to keep him for the few days untill you can take him to the rehab.

Let it go. That's the best thing you can do. That is relatively minor and tame compared to some Turtle/Tortoise injuries I've seen. They are survivors and know what to do. You and your Vet don't, point blank. That Turtle knows where to go to heal. Possibly killing it with kindness isn't going to do a thing for it.

Letting it go is irresponsible.:irked: I can't believe anyone would recommend that.
Right now, the danger is infection. You need to head to the vet and get some anitbiotics. If that wound gets infected, it's all over.

Why does it matter? Point out how what I wrote is somehow incorrect if you must.;) If I told you I run an internationally acclaimed turtle rehab center, would this suddenly change your mind?

oh..my..god and your dog ate him pretty much well i would say keep him till he gets better and take him to the vet..i mean if you let him go hell probably just die
