URGENT! Polys fighting

Maybe you ought to reread this thread before stomping around trying to set things on fire. Or, if a fire is what you genuinely desire, you might try a more efficient grade of gasoline. I wont bother formulating a deep response other than to say that my tank is a wonderful habitat populated with still more wondrous creatures, and everything I do is in their best interest.

Now then, if youre still in the mood to troll try visiting the arowana forum to inform them that their tanks are much too small and that they ought to feel bad about it.

Good day.

Okay, here's my take on this whole situation... You're a flippin' idiot and you should NOT be allowed to own fish!

When you have critters that are not getting along, you don't add anything in. You give them a chance to work things out. They have to become secure in the new companions in the tank, without the stress of adding too many in such a short period of time.

You rearrange your tank to their pleasure. The tank is their home, not just for your personal viewing pleasure. They need to be comfortable in their home, no matter how long it will take to change it. If you care about your fish AT ALL, you will think of their comfort before your time.

If you don't have enough tanks of a decent size (45+ gallons, at least!) to separate your fish as needed, then don't go out getting more!

I have a Ornate Bichir, a Senegal Bichir, a Spotted Gar, and two Albino Bristlenose Plecostomus. I just spent yesterday (16+ hours) giving them a larger tank and arranging the whole thing so that they would be happy. Time should not matter where your fish are concerned. I view my fish as more than a "hobby." They are part of my family, important and loved. Maybe you need to reassess your "fish hobby," and get a different one!
Im not really sure your justified to call the OP an idiot when he pretty much is asking for help and asking what they should do. Especially if he already did "let them work it out." Just because the OP doesn't do the same things as you do or take care of trier fish a certain way doesn't mean he isn't fit to own fish. In fact the OP is doing a lot more right than wrong IMO than you give them credit for. They supply their fish with more than ample space. Enough so that the ornates may not even see the new addition until it's feeding time. As far as 45+ gallons of water some people do not have enough space, time, or funds to keep that many tanks. Besides the OP already said if he has to he can put some in a 37 gallon tank which combined with the 10 and 20 gallon tank adds up to more than "45+" gallons. If I am coming off rude in this post I apologize, but I just feel that you shouldnt just say the OP is an idiot and shouldn't own fish, when they are trying to ask for help and do the right thing. Maybe instead of flaming them you should give them your advice and suggest what you think is right. Just because people don't do things the way you do them doesn't mean they don't love their fish any more or less.

jesus....the man is asking general, good questions...the tank size he has for his polys is great, hes doing everything he needs to do to keep his fish happy. Thats the point of this forum is to ask for advice haha. From what I read hes more responsible than 99.9% of this forum when it comes to large growing fish. Also...I love my fish, and there are days I spend quite a bit of time cleaning and rearranging, but if you are spending 16+ hours on one tank...I don't think its the OP who needs a new hobby...I'd ask if you are going to let the tank cycle before you put your fish in, but I'm guessing it will be done by the time you finish your decorating.

Clear signs of high horse syndrome aside, OP ornates are angry little guys sometimes haha. Glad to hear they are getting along. My 5.5" koliba shares his growout 55 with a 3" albino sen and they have never shown even the slightest signs of aggression. Laps are extremely laid back from my experience so far, good luck dude bichirs are addictive haha.

My apologies if I came across as an asshat in my response to the flaming. I got a bit frustrated. I tutor college students in writing. In truth, it is less a high horse and more a love of linguistics.

Yours was an appropriate reply to a juvenile attack. We hope to encourage fish keepers to seek advice in the best interests of their animals, which is exactly how I read your questions and the tone of this thread.

haha I was referring to the Midol representative that told you you were a horrible fish parent being on a high horse, not you haha.
