I would say aliigator gar to. The snout is very short and broad which would rule out most gars. It does not look like my short nose gar but it could be (different colors from different regions). I would say either alligator gar or maybe a snort nose gar. If it is an alligator gar it will be a monster sized fish. 7ft fish anyone?

most gator gars get bigger than 7ft, but again...IMO I don't think that is a gator gar.

100% gator gar. phil's right (as always), it's definately either washed out from stress or the flash.

Actually most gators get to 5 feet and if given enough space, it might grow to 7 feet(wild ones for sure 7 feet).

the pic is of a badly kept atractosoteus spatula aka gator gar

my gosh people, GATOR GAR 100%. this was an easy one, no extra pics needed, no dissection, etc etc etc.

use the ID keys and links and compare the pics. i understand not everyone has a lot of experience with gars specifically, but we are all fish hobbyists here...use the pinned topic keys and this is an easy comparison to make.

Atractosteus spatula.--

lol. this thread. fail for a grade on ID'ing for most people in this thread. This is easily a gator gar.

I have try to identify myself but I really think that the pattern and color totally unmatch the alligator! Therefore, I ask for the help from those gar experts here. I'm not lazy!!!

color pattern can vary within a species, but the base traits remain with this specimen compared to other gators...very short broad snout, small spotting, stocky body.

hopefully all the other responses (at least those that said gator as opposed to nonsense) helped you with the ID.--
