urine to cycle tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you do know that fish pee ammonia is totally different in makeup than humans, which in turn is different than birds and reptiles.

i'm not saying i plan on doing it.. i just heard of it being done... and supposably its better then a goldfish cycle... i was trying to find the truth in that

wtf!? thats the stoopidest thing ive ever heard!!!! how could anyone actually piss in there tank...knowing that there pets are goin to be livin in there! not to mention u have to put ur hand/arm in there...ack! lol

It would be really weird peeing into your own fish tank lol

I wouldn't do it, I've cycled one tank in my life and never plan to cycle another. But regardless it is a form of ammonia and would cycle the tank. As for putting my hand in the tank after the cycle, I would have no problem doing it. How many of you have dogs that **** and piss on your lawn which you pick up (crap only) then you walk on it, whats the difference.

Have to agree, wouldn't do it myself, but having a dog and a 2 year old boy I can safely say I'd have no hesitation on putting my hands in a little of my own pee mixed with 120+ gallons of water. I've had my hands in far worse.

yes it can be done, and yes it could work.

but the reason we use pure ammonia is that we know it's pure, and there's nothing else going on in it. your pee is not like that. everything you eat, everything you drink, even your daily grooming habits can change the molecular makeup of your pee significantly.. think about it.. have you ever eaten asparagus and your pee smelled funny? drank coffee and your pee turned dark? ever had a urinary tract infection?

personally, i dont want that junk in my tank.
so yes, it could be done, but at a risk of killing/harming the fish.

I agree whole-heartedly. There are a lot of things that "could" work... like never doing water changes. People get away with it, but is it the best? Is it good for the fish? We are in this hobby to take care of fish, not just "own" them. The people who cram oscars into 10 gallon tanks "own" fish! We are aquarium hobbyists, we aspire to higher standards.

Next thing you know someone will say number 2 will soak up nitrates:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:........... just kidding guys, all i know is that if it's not that serious to piss my fish tank. That's wack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Ive got the 12 pack and the test kit. Now Whose gonna let me pee in their tank????
