Used Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it doesn't matter if you can show us 155g in a living room with no support because that living room and floor struture is not the same as everyone elses.

some houses are older, some are newer, some apartments have concrete flooring, some do not.

in addition, tank shape makes a difference too.

a 150g tank that is 48" long is supported by a fewer number of floor joists than a 150g tank that is 72" long etc.

etc.

what is fine for you may not be fine for me.

just be careful with the generalizations, thats all.

we don't want anyone with sagged and/or damaged floors

that would suck :)

I just measured the tank and it's 29" high not 22" so 72"x 18"x29" which comes out to 160g guess I should be very happy about that :) , I so wish I could switch the width and height though as I'm a fan of bottom dwellers. Spoke to my land lady she is going to ask her son about where the load bearing walls are. Super bowl is not in my favor I do not have cable. Will have to wait till tomorrow or during the week to grab some people.

how does that work with the ply wood?

congrats! that means you have the Aqueon version of the 150g, which is the same as mine. they are the only ones who make a 72x18x29.5 tank.

actually it could be an oceanic brand too (if it has the glass cross brace) but both Aqueon and Oceanic are owned by the same company (central pet)

its relevent to our discussion because your water column just increased by 7 inches in the same footprint, so you just added about 350 pounds of water +100 pounds extra for the tank -the 150's are about 100 pounds heavier than the 125s as the whole tank is made with thicker glass = 450 pounds more weight in the exact same area..

so reinforcement is probably necessary here..:)

I am very psyched about the tank, I can't wait for my fish to double their living space they have been crammed in a 72 for 2 years. Even if the tank is placed upon a load bearing wall you would recommend reinforcement? I don't think my landlady will go for altering the house in any way.

my 125g is not on a load bearing wall and sits same way as beams, so all weight is on 1 beam maybe two. but then flooring spreads the weight out more. i worried at first. my metal stand was the problem. it had 8 legs which was concentrating the weight. i noticed legs were digging into my floor so decided to chop legs off.

nice tank, your daughter is adorable
