Used Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree that we are not debating fancy fridges. lol

but I think we need to be very careful in recommending that all houses can handle the kinds of weights that you are talking about. a 220g full weighs about 2500 pounds.

you can't just put that anywhere without risking structural damage to certain floors.

not all floors, but some.

hell, the same could be argued for a 150g that weighs about 1800 pounds.

these tanks weigh as much as some cars.

i helped a frined of mine move his 125 and it was heavy as hell and im a big dude at 6'6 325 i can lift alot and i was shocked how much it weighed

that's not the point here, we talking about floor not how fancy a fridge is, i use fridge as example of it could go up to 3000LBs and people don't make a everyday fridge able to hold 3000 pound with out knowing that if somebody did put 3000 pound can crash the house, therefore they must have thought as in common sense, "if we were to make all fridge at average of 2200 pound then we must be sure that the house is able to support it" i feel like a child arguing this useless "thing"....

It was your example I was telling you that it wasn't possible so therefore your example was pointless. Trying to compare a 200 to 400 pound fridge to a tank that weights as much as small cars is not an example I would have chose.

Also telling someone they have nothing to worry about with the weight of a tank is not good advise to me. Unless your a structural engineer and are there in person to look at it. You said your 100% sure that you know that it is safe but yet how can you for one I doubt very like that your a structual engineer because it sounds like you work in a fish shop and your not there in person to see it. I'm not here to agree with you about this or about refridgerators I'm just saying watch what kind of advise you give people in these situations especially when your not an expert in the subject and your not there in person to see it.

For the person who started this thread I would suggest you find out what is under your floor if its concrete then your fine if its not I wouldn't do it because your probally renting and your landlord will probably not give you the ok to reinforce the floor. If he does give you the ok then I would do some research or contact some professional advise to see what the best route is to go.

ok i've read this all way threw an i dont think the 125 weighs that much me an my buddy bought mine in the house with no problem . i live in a 1995 model trailer i braced the floor with a 4x4 an two piers of concrete cinder blocks but it has been in the house for almost a month filled an running an so far the floor hasnt even begun to sag or anything im looking at getting a 285g acrylic tank to go in place of the 125 i currently have setup in the living room.an as far as a fridge goes i would say they weigh in around 2to 5 hundred pounds on average. an it wouldnt be hard to put a 1000 pounds or better of food in one.an a lay down freezer i can see it being 3000 or better. you got to take into consideration the amount of water frozen in the food an the average weight of things an they just get heavier once frozen

I saw that thread smokey, didn't you put a hold in wall to get that monster in :) you undoubtedly had a much bigger task ahead of you, I have only four stupid freakin steps holding me up. The glass is 1/2" maybe more I could probably use it for cover in a shootout.

Well its midnight and tomorrow is superbowl, maybe monday I can pursuade some of my larger coworkers to come over for lunch

if any of your neighbors are haveing a super bowl party an try to catch some of the guest or the neighbor to see if they can help. or if you going to a party some where else see if you can inlist some help.

i just rememberd, why all these arguing when i can show you guys the actual stuff, of 155G in the living room with no support? well today i am picking up another 155g with my friend, is not mine, is his, but also here will be another prove that 2 people will be able to carry a 155G all glass no problem, i will take pictures dont' worry :)

-note, he has 155g in his living room for like 2 years now, the 155g we picking up today is not the same! this guy has: 2 x 125G 1 x 435G 2 x 90G, and now 2 x 155G! he's balling :D and he has lots expensive fish, 3 super red aros....and omg so much to talk about i will take pictures! pictures worth a 1000 words!!!!!:D
