Using hormones to induce breeding...is it Dangerous?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
once u see the babies hatchin from the egg, do u remove both parents?

do u think a 522 is big enough for svereal big endlicheri (around 5) to mate? regards.

I remove the plastic mat that the eggs are on to hatch them away from the parents. See the pics in this thread. Some of the eggs are missed and I have found 1" fry in with the parents, the fry survive by hiding in the mats and eating siblings. If the parents see them they will be eaten.
Whats a 522 ? If its a 522ltr tank it is big enough, I would not be surprised if they do group spawnings.

I managed to get a female ornate

thats good. u may be able to breed ornate.

do u have msn? able for us to communicate through there? i am planning to breed weeksi, congicus, endlicheri and long-fin senegalus.

522 meaning 5ft by 2ft by 2ft.

so the mat is to provide a "hiding place" for the juveniles? and to provide ease of moving the egg? thanks.

thanks for your reply.

anyway, 2 more questions.

1. The mat is to provide a "hiding place" for the juveniles? and to provide ease of moving the egg?

and...

2. What type of filtration u use for breeding and for the juveniles when they are hatched from the eggs? thanks.

1. The mat makes it easy to remove the eggs, the fry stay with the mat for about 4 weeks. It gives them somewhere to hide.
2. The filter in the parents tank is a goldfish bowl undergravel filter in a 2ltr icecream container 3/4 filled with gravel. 2 of them in a 3' tank. The eggs are placed in a small tank with meth blue and an air stone, when they hatch I replace the stone with an air operated sponge filter.

thanks for ur input, anyway, when they hatch u replace the stone with an air operated sponge filter, wouldn't that suck the fries into the filter as they are still small after they hatched. thanks bro for helping.

These days I keep the delhezi and endlicheri in 600ltr tanks 2 pairs in each tank. The endlicheri haven't spawned yet, the delhezi have had dozens of spawns without producing any fry. I pulled some more delhezi eggs today, one day they will get it right. I have raised over 400 senegals since 2008 and still get a buzz when I see eggs.
