I agree with what everyone is saying.
I have a fairly good sized pool at about 45,000 gallons I have a 2 horsepower pump. I only run it for about 5 or 6 hours a day. I would say my power bill goes up about 40 bucks a month in the summer because of the pool.
The pumps these days are more efficient than they used to be, but still not appropriate for an aquarium. A Lot of aquarium pumps are still way more efficient than the pool pumps. Noise would be the biggest issue for me though, our pump is fairly loud, you wouldn't want that in your house by no means.
Another thing to consider would be heat transference some of these pumps can get pretty hot and on an aquarium it could cause the temperatures to just keep climbing up.
