The storm of 1980 is when the pier was lost. Hazel and Gary moved to New Mexico for a while after the loss of their business. They returned near the end of the 80s.

From the South Bay Compass:

In 1980 a winter storm broke off the southern portion of the T-shape end of the pier, leaving a wide gap. It was rebuilt in 1982, but heavy winter storms in 1983 and 18-foot waves tore off 190 feet of the western end of the 1,100 foot pier. By January 1986 storms washed out several pilings.

in 77, the left side of the pier had broke, boat launch was no more. I was on the pier the day after the storm, and the crack would open up with the swell and drop a can it and watch it crush. I use to kick that boat launch gate open and jig for squid to fish for shovel nose in the morning.

let me see, the bicentennial was 75. I was 15. pier left T would have happened in 76. or 77.

the rest of the T fell around 79 i am thinking, after moving to san Jose and joining the navy I came back and the T was gone, pier went out about 2/3 of the way it did before. again this have to be 79 or 80, and hazel working at a 7-11.

Never used a cover. All of my species were coastal and evolved in rapidly changing conditions. If the pond got low, from evaporation, the garden hose fixed that.

Interesting. Although I still reckon it would only be possible close to the sea, or in very arid regions.

no reason it not work, but pulling what ever pathogens into your tank with it, if not native to the waters asking for problems.

Oddball Oddball , your SW pool sounds amazing. Do you happen to have any pictures of it left?

Unfortunately, an Ex threw, sold, or destroyed most of my belongings while I was deployed. No pics taken during several years survived (fish, friends, or family).
