USPS Scare

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well i bought fish from a member and he ships USPS priority mail. They arrived in 2 or 3 days just fine. just if you are going to use USPS just ship monday or tuesday.

UPS in my area really sucks, but any carrier can screw up a delivery. two weeks ago I recieved 8 wild discus from florida.fed ex next day air. waited at the front door till noon. let the dog out thru the back door and there was the carton sitting on the steps. no knock, no bell. carton was wet on the bottom. opened the carton and the styrofoam box inside was smashed. the result was I lost 5 of 8 fish. supplier is making good for the replacement fish and shipping. the bad news is fed ex is again the carrier. this is what they left on my steps. the driver went around the back even tho the front door is 10 feet from the street. You think he knew I would be a little pi$$ed.

I'd been using DHL for receiving inverts, fish etc...but now they're no longer in the intra-national shipping business. My supplier's next shipment is going to be sent by USPS....I'll let you know how that goes ;)

maybe it rained.

my only probem with USPS is that on the day of the delivery, they did not leave the package at my door, they left one of those "come pick up your package" memos instead!

don't know why the didn't just leave it, but when I drove to the USPS office to pick it up, the driver was still out . . . this was Saturday, so I would have to wait for the next delivery, on Monday :nilly:

thankfully, the USPS guy at the office was very helpful, and he called the driver and got him to go back to my house and drop off the delivery . . . six Rainbow cichlids that had spend 5 days travelling from Colorado to Florida . . . whew!

still, would not use USPS again . . .

That senario of what happened 3dees bites worse than a RBP (Red Belly Pirana). I hope your supplier gets the package to you in one piece. I think too, instead of waiting inside by the front door, I'd be waiting outside with a cell phone, just in case it happened again. I'd call the driver's supervisor and file a formal complaint in writing and ask for the driver's job. The supervisor too, if he's a nonconformist.

Hope all goes well with all of your wild discus stock. Were they suppose to be 4 pairs? Which ones are you getting? What size of tank are they going into? Are you planning on breeding them once they become mature/old enough to breed? Keep us posted. :)

"Did something spill on it and people assumed it came from the inside because it was labeled as live fish?"

Bingo!

Remember who you are dealing with also.....

POSTAL EMPLOYEES!

For the most part they cannot be fired and have NO incentive to care or do a good job! Are all postal employees that way? Of course not, but in my opinion there are more people like what I am describing who work for the postal service than at FedEx or UPS!

I stopped sending and receiving fish via the postal service when I received a shipment of fish from a postal employee who had already delivered the mail earlier that day and came back late in the day with my box of fish saying "I would have delivered it earlier if I had know live fish were inside." :screwy: The box had LIVE FISH, HANDLE WITH CARE printed, in large letters, all over it!!! :screwy::screwy::screwy:
