While I agree with capital punishment, I don't feel that the manner with which they execute a prisoner will have any bearing on whether a person will or will not comit a heinous crime.

I agree with that but I would almost like to watch such a spectacle in my city since it seems that some of the criminals here will do just about anything to those that they prey upon.

i was thinking this too. i think we should make it happen quicker but not 1 week after being found guilty

there was a guy recently that got release. convicted of raping someone. with today's technology, they found he was innocent after like 37 years or whatever it was behind bars. ouch.

they gave him a certain amount of money for every year he served. think he got like 1.5 mil or something. man, i'd give that money back in a blink of an eye to get my 37 years back.

Was this in the US? Good movie to watch is After Innocence, a documentry about people who have been released from prison (most were some not) after DNA evidence found them innocent after decades of being locked up. Some of them can't even get thier record expunged, and none of them has seen a dime to this day (that I'm aware of) for retribution. Very, very moving movie.

That said, once someone has been found guilty without a doubt for certain murders (I would not support the death penalty for someone who killed their child's murder, etc.) or in certain cases for pedifiles, or child abusers I am 100% pro death penalty. I do not agree with my tax dollars being spent on them being locked up, or for the lengthy appeal process once they have been sentenced to death. Innocent people die everyday due to things like famine and not enough money for the over-popoulated world we live in today. I'm ok with weeding out those (humanely) that don't deserve it, or are a threat.

The one main (IMO) only real moral drawback for the death penalty is the oops factor. It's not one of those sentences that can be commuted once performed. Innocent people have been killed, more than once and more then any one of us want to think about.

I do support it for certain crimes with little hesitation and in certain cases I'm gladly provide the gun, bullets and pull the trigger. That said if 5 years later it turns out that he/she was innocent that would make me a murderer.

It a simple fact of human beings that there will arise individuals who society must be rid of. The question is how? Do we lock them up forever while offering them rehab? Do we risk ever letting them out? If they are released as cured and re-offend do we reattempt rehab or lock them away forever?

To those who oppose the death penalty in ALL circumstances would you be willing to go to the second victim's family and tell them "Sorry your (insert relative here) is dead but we felt (insert killers name) deserved a second chance." Do so unarmed and without police escort.
