bullets are cheaper than any other form of execution. well, maybe rope is cheapest.

I'd imagine spending life confined in a cell would be worse punishment. Then if the family of the deceased still has blood lust they could always execute him when he is elderly.
I'm all for the death penalty. My only problem is the way in which it is handed out. It kinda sucks how a guy who rapes and murders a family can get life without parole, and some 18 year old kid who grows up in the streets, ends up in a gang, and ends up killing some other gang member, can get the death sentence. All based on the judges decision.
I also think there should be substantial evidence linking the murderer to the crime before a death sentence is handed out. There have been too many people killed, or locked up for years awaiting the death penalty, to later find out they didn't do it.
