Thanks everyone i put one on the tank today so hopefully it will be cleared up soon!! how long should it take? I was only able to get the 9 wt turbo twist as they were out of the 16... It cost me 130 for the sterilizer and 30 for the powerhead...
Your tank should be visibly more clear in three days. It should be sparkling crystal clear like glass by next Friday. What size is your tank and what is the gph of the powerhead?
UV sterilizer works so good we can't believe the LFS's didn't already recommend one thats just crazy.... Anyways had to take some pics of the clear tank now that I can see my fish again!
yea UVs do wonders on algea out breaks.... when you have the extra cash a vortex is good to have on hand to polish your tank up every now and then... not meant for constant use but they do wonders...
What about tapping into an output line from a canister? "T" and a flow control valve..UV.."T" back to the canisters line to the tank.
Got a really good deal on a 9wt unit. Space in the stand is small, so need to get the most out of available space, equipment.
I think this would lower flow through your canister reducing turnover rates. Besides this, the flow rate of your canister may be too high for the UV to work as well as it should.
I really think a better option would be a seperate submersible pump for the UV. By the time you buy all the plumbing/fittings necessary to run it with the canister, you may be well on your way to having the cash for a seperate pump.
Also, with a submersible pump, no extra space is taken up in the stand if you don't have a lot of room like the other poster. Some UV Sterilizers (like my Coralife Turbo Twist) are able to hang off the tank, saving more valuable space. Just something to keep in mind if space in the stand is a concern.
Wow that turbo twist is something else. I've recently obtain a UV myself and it works great for the water. I just don't know why the LFS never recommend it! And i have just read about a diatom filter too... I'll be getting one of those this weekend. I can't wait to see how well those work
