So I hooked up a 9watt uv sterilizer to my 75 gallon cichlid tank that had zero algae problems but my buddy swears by them to keep your tank clean even if you dont have algae...wow what a difference. My water was very clear as it was but adding that made it amazingly clear. I had no idea about these things now Im getting one for every tank..highly recommended..anybody else having luck with these?

free swimming, yes, but the vast majority of BB is fixed on glass, substrate decor, and biological filtration media.

I've seen so many uv sterilizers that are put into filters though... wouldn't that just kill all of the beneficial bacteria in the filter?

You hook up the uv to the out put of your filter not your input =)
i agree with the statement! I recently got one and wished i got one earlier!

So if you do hook it up to the intake you will crash your filter?
I seriously doubt it,unless you take to bio media out of the filter, and shine the UV light directly on it.

I run a few. No complaints. But the clearest tank I have, has a undersized filter, and no UV on it. Go figure.

yeah its amazing my fish look like they are floating in air in that tank...its only a 9 watter too in a 75..gonna have to spend some loot for a bigger one for my 125

oh and heres a pic of the tank...wish i had a before pic..and a better friggin camera but you get the idea
