for a huge tank what about using a pond sterilizer, it seems that a lot of pond equipment does the same thing but is much cheaper.
I'm going to go to uv more to keep disease from spreading from one tank to another
( I have a mixed tank that's doing ok but am getting in some fairly expensive fish that will be in a tank next to it
I have to ponder theimmune system thing and it's really late
far as i'm concerned the fewer bugs the better and if you can knock out a few pathogens go for it
I've heard from some people that their fish did great until they took off the uv
then croaked
think about it
these might have been delicate fish who were stressed and could not tolerate an immune system challenge.
in other words they may have died much earlier without the uv
