Which species in the Sperata genus could S.Aor be confused with do you think? I haven't heard of any pther species being imported but then again exporters don't care much about a positive ID.

TBTB, do/did you own S.Aor at one time or another? I know Necro has.

Sorry for derailing man :(

You're fine. :) I don't care if people learn about anything catfish in my threads. As I understand it any of them at a small size could be confuse for one of the other ones. All look similar. Check link
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=76#169

I actually have never owned one. Technically I own one right now as I paid for it a few weeks ago and was told I had to wait til after the holidays to receive it. :) i wait impatiently lol. I have never owned sperata, but it is a genus I have been looking to keep for some time now. I actually am behind in the asian and european catfish keeping lol. I still have not kept anything from Aus. either if I remember correctly. So I better get a move on it lol.

I think TBTB has kept several though.

Well quite frankly there isn't much in Europe worth keeping.. Silurus Glanis of course, and S. Aristoteles but the chance of acquiring one of those is exactly 0.
Now Asia is a whole different story.. Pangasius, Sperata,Bagriidae.. :)

More specifically I think Sperata acicularis would be easiest to confuse with aor. I have read that they do not get along with each other, and am curious to see how they get along with the flathead. Not too worried about the doradids as everything seems to just ignore them. Seems that aggressive fish can tell that about each other and will fight. Weather or not they can settle this or will need to be seperated is another story.

Sperata are hard to ID when small, I was told and experienced too. I have had a small specimen for a short time - from 3" to maybe 6". Possibly aor but never could make sure (on my own).

Good info. I will be making a growout thread for that one as well when I recieve it. I am tempted to get the one on aquabid you showed me as well since it is supposed to be acicularis to see if there are any differences compared to the supposed aor I am getting already. I am short on funds currently though. Probably won't be able to get anything else until around feb.

lol, good news is that the flathead really pigged out tonight. I could clearly see him eat like 5 shrimps tonight. I turned out the lights and after the vulture devoured like two handfuls lol, the flathead came right out and scooped some up! Crazy after he has only just ate like maybe two times since I had him. Vulture catfish might have some competition soon if he keeps this up lol. YAY!!!! Persistence pays off again. I know he was pellet trained before, but I just couldn't get him to do pellets for anything. Seems to like shrimp pretty well and blood worms also were the only thing he would take til now! :) Can't wait til his new friend arrives next week I'm told. So far the aggression with the other catfish this one is house with is 0. Doesn't bother any of them except the Vulture. He just bites the vulture if he tries to go under the driftwood lol. Vulture seems to have learned just to stay away. Both doradids are never bothered by anyone. I think that when fish test them out and realize they are all spiky they just learn to leave them alone and they are very non-aggressive so maybe they can sense that as well. Never any strife with them. Raphael and Granulosus stay together always.

Ate more chunks of shrimp tonight as well!!! You can see him and his mates in this vid!!! Came out better than expected since I couldn't see the view finder and had my arm over the top of the tank lol.

You can see in this new vid he has been eating well nearly every night now and has put on some weight! :) maybe even grown a lil?

Awesome fish man! I have a flathead and a blue cat that Ive had for a while. Both are super friendly and very interesting. They used to fight a bit until they established an order. Flathead is king! My little guy was about 5 inches or so when I caught him. He is now almost 20". Eating massivore. my blue is about 16'' but he is growing faster than the flathead. Just Ive only had him half as long. Only warning I have is flatheads will attempt to eat anything up to 2/3 their size when they get big enough. No joke! Anxious for updates!
