Very cool Cliff, excited to see this dude get a proper home. I had one that was around 12-14 inches that was a BEAST. So aggressive he had to be rehomed. Subbed and will follow this.
Wanted to say thanks to everyone for the kind words. Hopefully I will be able to keep this lil guy for a long time to come. He will go into the 400 when he's a little bigger and when I move this summer I have a 1200 gal tank build that I should be able to get started on.
Day two!!!!! So the flathead has settled in nicely in the 100 gal tank. He nibbled a piece of shrimp but spit it back out. He has darkened up quite nicely now that he is fully adjusted. He has also accepted the suncats coming back into the hole under the driftwood. If they get too rowdy he kicks them out again though.
Flatheads are an awesome native cat. We used to Hog them out of the local river. Biggest was 64 lbs. 5 over 50 lbs and countless 30-40 pounders. I once caught 4 of them at 1.5-2 lbs along with 6 channel cats over 5 lbs from the river to stock my dads 3 acre pond. With in 7 years they decimated all the perch, hybrid perch and a large # of the bass. And the flatheads were breeding by then also. Needless to say I wasn't very popular.............
