When he settles all the way in, his dark pattern is awesome.

HIs dark pattern is all the way back and looks awesome. Reminds me of a Bagarius in a way with the coloration that is. :)

I forgot to tell you he was killing tilapia like no other

I believe it lol. No fatalities yet in my tank. Now that he has asserted his dominance I've had no issues out of him in this tank. I can see that I might have to move my smallest sun cat though. After he lost his position in the pecking order the bigger one wont leave him alone and has tattered his tail fin.

Flatheads are an awesome native cat. We used to Hog them out of the local river. Biggest was 64 lbs. 5 over 50 lbs and countless 30-40 pounders. I once caught 4 of them at 1.5-2 lbs along with 6 channel cats over 5 lbs from the river to stock my dads 3 acre pond. With in 7 years they decimated all the perch, hybrid perch and a large # of the bass. And the flatheads were breeding by then also. Needless to say I wasn't very popular.............:)

Sweet! Yeah my cousin goes trolling for them and sends me pics to taunt me lol. I want to make a trip to santee cooper when I go home to fish for some monster blues and flats. Also have a spot I know of for some baby blues!!!! :)

Awesome fish .....the only way we can catch em here in mo is on live bait, are you going to try and feed him live food?

I got a flat head last spring about same size. He looks cool, seems to be doing well and has put on a few inches. However, I've never seen him eat, or even move for that matter. Even when I turn the lights out and try to sit back and watch I haven't seen him so much as move. The only time I notice him is when I'm doing water changes and I'm moving the "log" he hides out it.... cool cat, but totally inactive... at least that's my experience.

Nice fish! I loved the dominance video, that was very interesting. Hope it works out for the little suncat though. :(

I had a blue cat before. I lost him when I lost all of my natives last spring due to a power outage. He was a cool, personable, beautiful catfish. I'd like to have another someday.

awesome catfish and love the flathead, he's going to grow into such a beast, can't wait for more updates good luck

lol, well pic and vid updates will be very difficult as he stays under the driftwood with two large suncats in front of him all day long. :)

lol, good reaction.

lol, be cool to see some pics of yours. Mine is settled in and hiding like crazy too, but mine does come out when I turn out the lights. Not sure he's eating yet, but I have watched him cruise around the tank the last few nights.

The little suncat is doing well, and tail healing up fine. Added a tiny bit of salt to aid him. The sun cats are way more active now that the flathead is in there. Seems very interesting they were the lay ones before I added him. They actually have been coming out during the day to eat now as well. They have been harassing the vulture as well lol. Wow a blue catfish. hmmmm, lol. I'd love to have a tank with a grown out channel, white cat, flathead, and blue at the same time!!!! Would be spectacular!!

That flathead is sexy. I love the speckling.

I think its amazing how convergent they are with other, similar cats that have similar patterns of behavior such as the Jau.

I regret the fact that American catfishes have been so dramatically overfished. I would love to see a modern specimen that achieved the size of the fish on record from largely reliable shipping manifests from the 1800s; 350 pound bluecats and 10 foot gator gars and whatnot. I firmly believe that big fish from the Mississippi could potentially rival fish from anywhere else on the Earth if their fisheries pressure wasn't so absurdly high. Oh well, I guess we'll never know though. :(
