does anybody have any ideas on how to improve horsepower.

Are we talking $ or $$$$$$$$$$$? I got tons of ideas for you. Just let me know price thats going to be invested and I'll give ideas.

Hey Cross

As for me - a little $ for my Jeep Cherokee - inline 4.0 liter. Stock 190 hp, high torque capacity. What about swapping the 4.0L for a 4.7 H O or would that be too involved? (I don't think the 5.9 would fit?) (Actually - the 4.0L is a die-hard engine, and would hate to put in a 4.7 HO if it is not as good quality)

So basically, yeah, give the two of us ideas! lol

i was thinking a price range of no more then 2 grand.I dont want anything that isent street legal.

2 grand will pack a good punch, I think.

So is this going to be offroad or just a little project for more power. Anyways you can try a bore kit on the 4.0L to increase the cubic inches. Or try a porting out the exhaust and intake valves for increased flow. High lifter cams for longer intake times and quicker exhaust release with some new pushrods and springs. New headers and some pipes. Hell you can even try and add a supercharger with a nice pully system and your good on horses and ft. lbs. New high voltage ignition system with high output distributor cap. Cold air intakes. Really anything you buy for a car is going to cost you a pretty penny. You can put some High compression pistons with new aluminum connecting rods, pins and rings. You can really make any engine into a power house you just have to have good quality stuff and the money. I mean you can make your jeep do 1/4 miles in high 11s if you can afford the power. Bigger is not always better. My dad used to run a 502 cid 71' chevelle and his 396'cid used to get better times on the 1/4 mile. Oh the 396 was a chevelle as well. Both of them got 1 mpg lol.

This is for more power - It sounds like I should just stick with this good 4.0L I6. I would like to stay simple, though. It has a stock 0 to 60 in approx 9.6 seconds, so I don't need much LOL

As for off-road, I definitely need lockers. I spend a lot of time with two wheels spinning in the air, as it is LOL
