How do you guys go on vacation and keep your fish alive at the same time?
Does anyone have a way that doesn't envolve other people feeding your fish.

If only for a week or so i just don't feed.Longer then a week use an auto feeder or pack the food for every other day and label it,and get some one that can follow directions to feed.

Never gone for a week here but I leave my mom my key and I get her to feed them. I also have wrote her a "omg" book. where if something happens again, god forbid, she will know something instead of filling bowls and pots with tap water. Oh, yea.. when Im gone lol got waaay off topic for a second sorry, umm yea she does, or if i knew I was going to be gone for a while Id probably buy an auto feeder. Im paranoid about my fish though if something were to happen and it didnt work then Id freak out. Id still have a friend come by and check. My advice... depending on how long your gone, if you can get someone and sorta "train" them if you will, to feed them correctly then your good! ohhh and take my advice on writing an "omg?!" book hehe

If I'm gone for a month then I might consider it... otherwise I consider it conditioning for spawning. But then again the main stay in my tank are golden wonder killi's and BNP. Everything else is just feeders. If I loose any I go get some more.

My fish all eat 2-3 times per day like pigs. sa and ca cichlids, but I'll take the advice and just not feed them for 4 days. I was thinking of using those time release blocks or stocking with some feeders. Just thought I'd put it out there since its close to Thanksgiving and I know many of MFKers are vacationing.

As you've read...a week won't harm most adult fish and in most cases is actully safer than having other people fed your fish. Problems due to practice this are so common that we gave it the name of "vacation syndrome"
