VATF settled in the 520 gallon.

He knows when it's feeding time and comes to beg at the front of the glass for a few seconds and then starts doing laps around the tank and when the food drops he swoops in and grabs full smelts and/or pellets depending on what I am feeding at the time. He has sure come out of his shell the last 5 months and is very comfortable with his tank mates. He never used to grab floating smelts and now it doesn't matter as it's fair game anywhere in the tank and I think that pisses the RTG off as the Vitattus is fast and grabs more food faster!! I think the more he grows the more comfortable he gets and now he isn't too timid around the RTG like he was before. He still has to keep an eye out as the RTG still wants to try and bite him every once in a while. It sure was trial and error for the last 2 years to figure what tank mates work and don't work.

RTG=Red tail golden arowana

Awesome! Its one of those things where only an owner of a big VATF knows hehe. I miss the burst of speed from one side to the next and hit the brakes or a quick U-turn to get my attention. Very very unique fish. Congrats, not many big ATF's with a nice looking snout:naughty:

Such an impressive fish at this size. You've done an awesome job keeping him in perfect shape.

Awesome! Last pics looks like he has damaged his upper lip
Does his tail turn yellow at all?

Came down this morning to check for ray pups and the VATF was spooked by the little bit of light I turned on in the basement and splash....crashed the glass. May have survived but I was heading to bed after a midnight shift and didn't have the patience to try and revive him. He was still breathing but was upside down and when I put him upright he seemed to be looking around. I tried for a 1/2hr to revive him but he couldn't flip over so I put him out of his misery, In case he didn't come around in the tank without my help I didn't want him to die in the tank while I was sleeping. Another fish I will never buy added with my deteriorating armatus that will soon have his own last update.
