vatf

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Moe are u stating an adult vaft in a 210 is ok with enough current?

Sashimimaster...... the vaft will be more then fine after 6 inches in a 210..... an 8 inch vatf going bad **** crazy in a 650?.... either urs is just extra crazy or your perams are way off and its teying to jump out of that tank lol

I am actually of the mindset that the best ticket for ATF is a smaller tank with lots of current. It seems as though they only do the spaz-and-die thing when they're in tanks large enough to allow them to actually stretch their legs (so to speak) in order to get enough speed to actually damage themselves. One cat on here got a GATF over 2' in a 210 with lots of current, and that thing was flawless. Can't remember his name now, but he used to be a regular poster. I got Max to over a foot in a 150, and once he got big enough that the tank was getting 'tight' by traditional standards, his spaz-against-the-glass fits stopped and he became VERY calm. The flightiness totally left him.

I wish that I lived in a state where I could still have one. :(

A 2 foot goliath in a 210!.... the only dimensions ive heard of for a 210 are only 2 feet long... poor guy prob couldnt even turn around ..... would love to keep 3 vittatus in a 210

Like chicx said. Yes I'm talking about an adult. And personally I've never seen a 2 foot vatf, I would love pics if anyone has, but from my understanding the biggest in similar sized tank I've read of atleast is 15 inches I believe. I doubt a vatf would get 2ft in captivity. And I watched a vid of a wild pack and they stay in open waters from my understanding so no need for any aquascaping maybe other than plants on the sides to protect any possible injury and your choice for the bottom. And you seem to be all over the place with this 210. Here you say vatf only, another thread you say scombs vatf and stingray. Maybe the better question would be if they'd be able to comm or maybe figure out what you want so we can be of more help. Unless you have more than one 210. I think vatf would stress and kill scombs. Same with rays or they would eat the scombs once bigger. And the Rays may outgrow and eat the vatf, I'm no ray expert by any means though. Or atf for that matter. 3 in a 210 is out of the question imo but one is doable with the right amount of current. Also bigger tanks I'd assume would be harder to make a strong enough current which would make it easier to get up to speed as well. And if he someone was bullying the vatf I feel it'd make sense.

Im not all over the place ...... i just made diff posts for diff fish to get opinions seperately..... nothing changed.... there is 1 210 gallon and i wasnt sure what my best option was between atf or payara

Ill post it here just in case im confusing

Scombs are out now

Motoros will be on the smaller side
My options

Vatf with 3 motoros ...
army with 3 motoros...
3 tats with 1 fatf 1 motoro 1 tig cat

Sorry if im confusing .... trying ti figure this out now ahead of time

Did you ask the fellas over in the ray section about 3 Motoros in a 210? They'll tell you it's too small unless you're planning on upgrading real soon?

I've got a single male Pearl that's not even a foot in a 180 and he friggin hates it. All my other rays are much happier in their 3-4' deep tanks.

3 motoros in a 210 wil be fine for a while ....i know they get large but that will take plenty of time..... my 8-9 inch has a ****load of room and the 1- 2 i would be getting would be around 7..... my guess is they would be more concerned with filteration then 3 motoros at that small of a size but i have more then enough filteration

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not advocating an adult GATF in a 210. I merely acknowledged that there was one kept on here in such conditions and it was very healthy. Personally, I feel that a 4 by 8 footprint would be ideal for an adult GATF for life, smaller for the other species.

As for VATF, the largest one I've ever seen kept was 22" and nearly two decades old. I honestly doubt that you'll get one any larger than that. It was kept for life in a 300 tall.

The only notable tigers I've seen over 2' have all been in cramped tanks. Woodysun-Taiwan's brevis, a fish LARGER than the current world record, was kept in a tank that looked to be about a 300. Wu Chun had a four foot (!) Gatf in a 11x3x3 tank, far smaller than most of us would intuitively think is neccesary.

Again, it seems as though all the big ones are kept in tanks small enough that they can't get enough speed up to hurt hemselves. As ATF have a turn of speed like an oceanic pelagic predator, this makes a bit of sense.

I've spent years not really pushing my opinion in this, but I think that my opinion carries some weight and maybe I should.

These fish deserve to be the centerpiece of a display tank. SandNukka15 SandNukka15 , if you want an ATF, get a non- gatf species, keep it in that 210 by itself and enjoy it. Do it right and have a showpiece specimen that drops jaws with its beauty. If not, just go buy some SA/CA cichlids and leave the tiger alone because it'll likely get killed by a $9 Oscar before it ever gets big enough to be impressive anyway.

3 rays in a little 210 will likely find that Tigerfish and make it a meal. Even if they are only 8-9". I wonder how I know? Best ways for rays to work with Tigers is to get the Tigers big long before adding any rays.

I'd go with Robs recommendation, get one non G species, and build the tank around it. Can still have other fish, just stuff chosen around the Atf, would ditch the rays or get them a properly sized tank. Plenty of time for Motoros to grow? They can easily get through a tank that size in a year IF fed properly.
