I think the immediate prior discussion involves payaras, which are the fish I've never kept and know exceedingly little about.
Dloks
' hunch is right.
As for the NigerxTSN, or it's most likely the other way around - TSNxNiger as maternal species is listed first - we know so little about it. It's interesting and surprising to me that
Tom Maguire
's friends had theirs max out at 12". Until this info, I thought they max out at 2'-2.5', having seen such photos.
It also must matter which TSN species (of ~9) and which Oxydoras species (of ~3) are being crossed.
In general, my vague impression is they are not a strong hybrid, not viable at all for aquaculture. Hence, these are the few survivors of occasional experiments at the farm labs and are dumped into the ornamental fish trade for the lack of any other use, other than fertilizer.
They appear to be a lot like RTCxMarbled Pim, RTCxParoon shark catfish, and other hybrids, which are barely viable too, susceptible to SDS, illnesses, defects, deformities, greatly shorted lifetime span, etc.
On a personal note, I grant that these are interesting but I am firmly against such experiments where man plays God ... yet I prefer to stay aware of what's being done out there, both good and bad (IMHO).
