Venomous Snakes

I kept rattle snakes from the time I was 14-15 until I was about 20.I never knew there were laws against it,and they were all ones I had caught on my property.We lived about 30 miles out of town in the middle of nowhere and they were everywhere in the summer time.I kept them in aquariums in my basement that had been cracked or chipped.
I never got bit once by a rattler I owned,its not that a difficult thing to not get bitten when their in tanks,riskiest part is getting them there.I did get bit twice though once at a summer camp when I was 11 and again when I was 16 taking a walk on my property.Both times I got antivenom and just got really sick and ended up in the hospital for awhile.Honestly having been bit by a black widow before I must say that was much worse.
I would have never kept one in a tank small enough that it could strike at you no matter where it was in the tank.My general rule of thumb was that the tanks had to be big enough that if he was on one side I could open the other,and if he was in the middle he still couldn't strike all the way to the side.
That being said I cant promise I would never keep one again if I had a chance to catch it, but I live in the city now so I don't ever see them.
