That is a female, and it's most likely a hybrid between the citrinellus and labiatus. I only say that because I haven't seen a pure species (when it comes to these guys) out of a big box store for several years.
If your looking for a pure fish look into some dealers online that have trustworthy reputations. If you don't care then don't worry about it
It's a nice fish, I used to breed those guys (petsmart midas) for feeders back in the day.
Thanks for the help. Yeah I was really hoping for a male but she's turned out to be a really neat fish. She grows a solid inch per month! And so far she's getting along with two male cons and a GT in my 100g tank. I don't think that'll last but I thought I might as well try it considering they're all grow-outs.
And as for the hybrid issue, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've always thought the Midas/RD were some of the best fish that Petsmart has to offer, especially the creamsicle type with the blue eyes. Can't beat it for $3.99!
Here's a pic when I first got her in July. She was the only multi-colored one in a whole tank of orange Midas, so she was exactly what I was looking for.
