You also have to understand that the water probably won't hit 50 in the middle of this pond if it's 5 feet deep. The ground will keep it insulated overnight and the sun will heat it during the day. The deeper you go the better because of this. Sounds amazing. If I were you, I'd just start sneaking some fish in there when mom and dad weren't home lol!

LOL - the water temp thing is VERY true - i honestly do not know how cold it will get, but i will definitely test the temp this winter, after it is dug out (hopefully) this summer. Biggest obstacle now is waiting for the first half to dry out (right now it is effectively a marsh, with ~4" of water in most places.) I got 2 of the 12 or so koi going into the pond 2 days ago. They are ~15 inches long and look great. I plan to add fish the spring after it is dug out, so hopefully it will be stocked 1 year from now
