that red ooze was might be the result of hemorragic septecemia. soory for your loss.

Can you elaborate on this point please?

Soooo sorry for your lost...I've been there and it does not feel good.

The "red ooze' was most likely blood releasing from the capillaries located in the rays intestinal tract. Once death and decay set in capillaries begin to degrade first. By degrade I mean burst. The intestinal tract of every animal is rank with bacteria (helps us digest) and this very bacteria is what sets in motion the decay process.
The anal sphincter, a muscle, loses tone (control) at/after death and as a result acts like an "open door" for the decay process. The capillaries in the intestinal lining breaking down and bacterial action tend to leave easily out this "open door".
With us humans it is no different.
Condolences,

aww sorry to hear about your loss...i recently lost my first ever Ray a few weeks ago...i was so sad that day i didn't know what to do with the body...so i left it to my grandpa to dispose of it while i left to go to the mall without me to see him go somewhere else. Hope you can get another one as I wish i have the money to get another ray. But i bet it won't have the same characteristics as my first ray
