Viable sized tank for polys.

Awesome that your building a tank. I love those domensions. I too hate tall tanks, your gonna love the width/depth it really changes the entire viewing experience. I think you would be fine with 20 inches.

You going with glass or acrylic ? Dont skimp on the stand. Mine is 27 inches tall (i think) and i wish it were a little taller, makes messing around in the sump a little difficult.

the stand I just built for my 100 gallon is 40" tall I figured all my fish are bottom dwellers so the higher the better now I won't have to bend so far to see them

Im going to go glass. I have a place in my town that has really good pricing I was planning to do two 3.5 (give or take) foot panes for the front viewing for viewing and maybe a side viewing panel.

and sump wise i was planning on doing a 48x24x16 sump so i was going to do a 36 inch tall stand

Man i regret not going larger with the sump. 72x18 sounded so big to me (for a sump) if i could fo it over i would have went 96 inches.

Really why's that?

Mainly just to have more room to add crap/gadgets.
Depending on how to you plan to plumb it the length could make things easier or harder lol.

Dont get me wrong a smaller sump will still be fine at the end of the day no matter what filtration we use they all do the same things - convert waste to nitrates and make the water clear for.our viewing pleasure

96x30x24 (height) if it werent for a bend in the basement stairs i would have gone atleast 36 inches wide. If your able to i would consider it

No way! That's the same problem I'm running into right now. And that's why the wife said no way on 48". But she said she could live with the 30-36" as long as I made it look "pretty". Haha

Ahhhhh the ever present wife problem lol

Take as many measurements as you can figure in the height amd width of the stand to. I was worried about getting stuck on the stairs....i dont think i would have been able to level it if i set it up on the stairs lmao

Haha I could only imagine what that would look like.

I don't think I'll run into any problems with height but I want it to at least be at about waist level for the stand. I think with the oddball size it will make it look pretty interesting. I'm probably going to build a canopy on it too so I'm going to have to take that into consideration as well
