I have used rubbermaid troughs as ponds and filters. I have a 150g rubbermaid on my pond as a filter. I had a few 300g even used a 75g once as a filter...built super well and will last forever!
 
I am in shear awe of your planiceps. Not many keep them and very few can house them properly at larger sizes. I lost my ~30" one a while back and am about to be growing out a pair or trio of babies sometime soon. Please post more pics of the planiceps, it's easily the coolest thing in that pond. Great looking setup sir!
